The Annual Dinner of the Durham City Freemen was held in the Town Hall on Saturday 15th of October 2016 where 72 Freemen, friends and guests enjoyed an evening in the wonderful setting of the Main Hall

The Mayor and Mayoress of Durham, Councillors Edward and Jennifer Bell were in attendance, together with Sir Paul and Lady Sarah Nicholson

The guest speaker was Gary Bankhead who gave an extremely interesting talk on the discovery and recovery of artefacts from the bed of the river River Wear. Gary who has been diving in the river with the support and corporation of both the Dean and Chapter and the University of Durham for the past seven years has recovered over 4000 objects many of which are hundreds of years old.

The dinner also supported by members of Guilds from Berwick, Newcastle, Coventry and York as well as the Durham City Freemen, their guests and friends from within the city and beyond.

Next years dinner is planned for Saturday, 7 October 2017
